Engaging with Tourists via Mobile Phone

OnePoint Surveys provide a new way for the tourism industry to engage.  Connecting with tourists via their mobile phones is a powerful tool for tourism departments to manage visitor experiences more effectively.

The recent integration of the OnePoint solution into Wildgoose’s treasure hunt is an excellent demonstration of an innovative application.  The new treasure hunt, ‘Wildgoose Takeaway’, has been designed so that customers can run the hunt themselves at a time to suit them.  A key element is the OnePoint solution which provides a fast and robust text messaging system allowing participants to name their team, record the time at which they start and finish the hunt, and ultimately confirm whether they have been victorious.

During the hunt each team can make use of two text lifelines to ask for the answer to a clue in case a clue is missing or hidden in some way.  This eliminates the need for Wildgoose to have staff on site in each city to check the hunts resulting in a significant cost saving. 

There are no messaging costs incurred by the players in the UK as all text messages are free whilst charges may apply overseas.

Wildgoose Treasure Hunts, whose clients include MTV, Halifax PLC, Mothercare, Loreal and Barclays Bank, run treasure hunts in over 40 European locations.   Jonny Edser, Director, Wildgoose Treasure Hunts said: ''The OnePoint mobile solution is a key element of our new hunts.  By utilising the mobile phone in this way we have been able to launch Wildgoose Takeaway as a fully automated, innovative and flexible experience for the participants which they are in total control of.  The technology also means that we can still offer a high quality treasure hunt but without the need for event staff on site on the day, which allows us to be very competitive price-wise.  This has opened up new markets for us in both the corporate and leisure sector which we were previously unable to satisfy.''
